KDP Adopts Delegate Selection Process

TOPEKA –– The Kansas Democratic Party has formally voted to adopt a draft of its delegate selection plan for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. The plan will now be submitted to the Democratic National Committee’s Rules & Bylaws Committee for final approval.

“The plan details the Kansas Democratic Party’s commitment to a fair, accessible, and transparent process that ensures that the Kansas delegation to the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago will represent the rich diversity of Kansas Democrats,” said Kansas Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass.

Kansas will use a proportional representation system based on the results of the March 19, 2024 Primary Election for apportioning pledged delegates to the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Kansas will send a delegation of 39 delegates and three (3) alternates to the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Thirty-three (33) of the 39 delegates are pledged delegates. In addition, Kansas will send three (3) convention pages and three (3) standing committee members to next summer’s Democratic convention.

All registered Kansas Democrats are encouraged to participate in the delegate selection process.

Democratic voters will be able to vote in the state’s Presidential Preference Primary on March 19, 2024 to determine the allocation of pledged delegates to Presidential candidates. District Level Delegates will then be elected at Congressional District Conventions held April 20, 2024. At-Large Delegates, Pledged Party Leader and Elected Official Delegates, and alternates will be selected by the State Committee on May 25, 2024.

Statements of candidacy for all delegate positions will be made available in early 2024.

Prior to adoption the Delegate Selection Plan was published and open for public comment for a period of 30 days, which ended June 2, 2023. The Kansas Democratic Party will implement an education and outreach program beginning later this year and continuing until the final selection of delegates on May 25, 2024.
