ROUNDUP: SCHMIDT, SAWYER CAN’T ESCAPE BROWNBACK’S SHADOW ON DAT OF LT. GOVERNOR ANNOUNCEMENT

Topeka, KS – Yesterday, on the final day to file to be on the primary ballot, Derek Schmidt selected unknown, partisan political operative Katie Sawyer as his running mate, confirming they are running on a fiscally irresponsible, anti-education, anti-health care platform that will take Kansas back to the Brownback era. Following the announcement, Schmidt and Sawyer could not hide from their ties to former Governor Sam Brownback and his dangerous policies that harmed our state.

  • KSNT: Kansas AG Derek Schmidt names running mate in Race for Governor
    Schmidt announced Katie Sawyer, a staffer for U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, as his Lieutenant Governor candidate Wednesday morning. Not too long after, Democrats in the state legislature held a press conference in the afternoon bashing the Schmidt-Sawyer ticket.“This confirms what many of us have known all along: that Derek Schmidt is running on a fiscally irresponsible, anti-education, anti-health care platform that will not move Kansas forward. We have worked so hard to overcome the Brownback era,”  said Representative Susan Ruiz, a democrat from Shawnee.

    In a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Rep. Susan Ruiz, a Shawnee Democrat, took aim at Sawyer’s work on Marshall’s staff. “She’s been a staffer for Marshall and he’s been an embarrassment to our state so she must be okay with that embarrassment and his form of politics,” Ruiz said. “Her thoughts are the same thoughts as Marshall, as Schmidt, as Kobach, as Brownback.”

    Kansas Democratic leaders say Schmidt’s selection confirms he is running on a fiscally irresponsible, anti-education, anti-health care platform.
