Candidate Tracker

DEPARTMENT: Research
LOCATION: Multiple Positions Across Kansas
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The candidate tracker is a member of the research operation, focusing principally on monitoring the activity of political candidates and documenting those activities and their statements and disseminating that information to relevant parties. In-depth training will be provided.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Monitoring news outlets, campaign websites and other available sources to best determine candidates’ schedules of events;
  • Tracking media advertising buys with broadcast and print outlets;
  • Maintaining recordings or copies of public statements, advertisements or news coverage;
  • Attending and recording publicly held events;
  • Maintain a running log of footage and transcribe footage for distribution to the campaign and consultants;
  • Coordinating with the research department to make sure relevant parties are kept up to date with opponents’ activities and statements.

  • Problem-solving skills and creativity in handling changing environments and situations;
  • Confidence to handle hostile environments;
  • Basic camcorder and typing skills;
  • Basic Video uploading and editing skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Access to a vehicle and willingness to travel to events (position may require long driving trips).

Coordinated Campaign Field Organizer

The Kansas Democratic Party is now hiring Field Organizers for its Coordinated Campaign. In 2010, Kansas will have statewide races for Governor, Attorney General, State Treasurer and Secretary of State, open seats in three of our four Congressional Districts and the potential to send a Democrat to the US Senate for the first time in decades. To top it all off, every single State House seat is up for grabs as we head into redistricting. At the center of it all is the Kansas Coordinated Campaign. The Kansas Coordinated Campaign is now hiring staff to execute direct voter contact. Field Organizers, under the direction of the Kansas Coordinated Campaign Director will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the Regional Field Director in executing their regional field plan
  • Recruiting, training and managing volunteers
  • Reporting voter contact numbers daily and ensure that all data is entered in a timely fashion
  • Work with County Party organizations and likeminded groups to elect Democrats
  • Advise and support local Party officials and candidates throughout the campaign
  • Representing the Kansas Democratic Party at local community events
  • Perform other duties as the Regional Field Director assigns

Ideal applicants will have the following skills and experience:

  • Ability to work long and irregular hours while maintaining a positive, energetic attitude
  • Good time management skills, attention to detail, strong work ethic
  • Ability to meet and exceed goals and deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and personal organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Kansas politics a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience preferred
